Leeds United set to complete major signing if condition met

Leeds United have had an incredible start to the season.

After 15 games in the Championship, the Whites sit in third place. The club are just two points behind Sheffield United and Sunderland, who are tied on 31 points at the top of the table.

Leeds fans will be frustrated that the club missed the chance to go to the top of the table after they lost to Millwall last week. However, the club bounced back with a win over QPR to keep themselves in the promotion race.

Daniel Farke owes a lot this season to some of the signings the club brought in the summer window. After losing Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville, there were a lot of doubts if Leeds could hit the heights of last season.

Leeds boast one of the best attacks in the Championship, and have one of the best defensive records. Their midfield partnership has been key to this. The club lost Ethan Ampadu and Illia Gruev to injury, and now Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have stepped in. The duo have been unplayable so far and have earned the seal of approval from fans at Elland Road.

The club are now looking a completing a permanent deal for Joe Rothwell, who is on loan from Bournemouth. Graeme Bailey has warned that any potential deal for the on loan midfielder will factor in Premier League football:

“Obviously if they don’t go up bringing him in permanently would be difficult. They like what he’s done, but if Amapdeu and Gruev are fit, Tanaka’s playing, does Rothwell play? He’d like to think he does.

“It would depend on Leeds’ ambition when they get promoted. A very good squad player, he can play a plethora of positions as well. He’d be one they would like to keep, but they’d need to get promoted.”

Should the club sign Joe Rothwell on a permanent deal?

Daniel Farke will face a huge dilemma when it comes to this transfer decision. Heading into the season Ampadu and Gruev were the first choice midfield pairing, with Tanaka and Rothwell as the backups.

Since the injury, Tanaka and Rothwell have showed their quality and why they deserve to play. Rothwell would be a great signing; a squad player who is flexible and can play multiple roles in midfield. The question is if he will stay at the club in the scenario where Leeds fail to be promoted to the Premier League.
