Leeds United set to launch £21M bid for star striker – former Spurs star cost just £6M last year

Leeds United scored 95 goals in the Championship this season, an average of 2.07 per game. Daniel Farke’s side had the best attack in the division by far.

The club only had three players that had scored 10 or more league goals. Joel Piroe was the top scorer this season with 19 goals. He was second top scorer last season with 13. The striker has done a great job over the last two seasons, but still gets criticism from fans. Piroe has been the regular focal point in attack; his backups have been Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford.

There have been many points during the season where his overall game has been in question. He also went on a nine game run without scoring, towards the end of the season.

Going into the Premier League next season, there are serious questions surrounding the 25-year old’s ability. Reports claim that Leeds will not fully depend on him to lead the line when the season starts, prompting questions about his future.

The news implied that another striker would be signed in the summer. Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur report that Leeds are seriously interested in signing Troy Parrott. The Whites are said to be ‘preparing a big’ for the Irishman this summer. His club AZ reportedly want £21.26million for the 23-year old. Parrott joined the Dutch side a year ago from Tottenham for a £6million fee.

Leeds could do with another body up top this summer, especially with other attackers in the squad being linked with moves away. Patrick Bamford has recently been subject to heavy interest from Wrexham.

Troy Parrott can provide competition for Joel Piroe

Adding another striker to carry the load is the best decision for Leeds United. Parrott is actually of a similar build to Piroe, but their playing styles differ quite a bit. 59 of his 68 shots in the Eredivisie this season have been in the box.

The former Spurs man is more active in the box, and likes to shoot a lot more than Piroe. He also has the knack of getting on the end of chances in open play. £21.26million seems like good value for the 23-year old, considering how much other options cost in the market.
