Leeds United star Junior Firpo has impressed so far this season, despite the disappointment he suffered not being allowed to play for his country at the Olympics.
In fact, even in September it was still a decision from the club that was weighing heavily on the fullback’s mind.
“It was hard”, Firpo was quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo.
“I tried until the last day but they told me that since I was an important player, one of the leaders and captains, they needed me at the beginning of preseason because the clubs close their business in the preseason and I was one of the keys.
“I was telling them that for me it was going to be something unique but it wasn’t possible.”
This means we need to give him extra credit for the performances he has conjured up so far this season. He has been one of Leeds United’s best players and is notching assists galore as he finally fulfils the potential everyone believed he had when he joined the club under Marcelo Bielsa.
But in an infuriating blow for Daniel Farke and his side, Firpo has an achilles heel and that is the frequency he picks up yellow cards. He picked up his fifth of the season against Watford on Tuesday (October 22nd), so is set to miss Saturday’s game with Bristol City.

Leeds United to make decision on £4.6 million talent

This means that Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has a decision to make on how to replace the brilliant Firpo. One solution could be turning to Sam Bryam to fill the hole, but many want Leeds United to turn to someone else.
In fact, many are hoping that Leeds turn to new signing Isaac Schmidt who arrived for £4.6 million from FC St. Gallen in the summer who has only played nine minutes of football since the move.
In his 12 appearance for Gallen, Schmidt scored twice and notched two assists showing the threat he brings to the side and many believe this has to be his opportunity to play, but it is Farke’s decision and a big one with Leeds in a position where they cannot afford to drop points.
