Leeds United look to have made a decision on one key player at the club ahead of the January transfer window.
Daniel Farke has done great squad management this season after the quality he lost in the summer. Leeds lost three key players during the last transfer window. Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter all sealed moves to the Premier League before the transfer deadline.
Gray was a revelation last season and lived up to the expectations of every fan at Elland Road. The teenager won Leeds Young player of the Year, and was named in the EFL Championship team of the year. Crysencio Summerville scored 19 goals and was named EFL Championship Player of the Year. Georginio Rutter was a key part of Daniel Farke’s attack, he provided 15 assists last season.

Ahead of the January transfer window, some players could potentially leave Elland Road. Junior Firpo and Sam Byram are set to depart the club when their contracts run out next year.
Firpo turned his career around at Leeds United and was also a key part of last season, providing seven assists from fullback. The 28-year old remains silent on his future at Elland Road. This has lead to Leeds United being linked to potential replacements. Sunderland’s Dennis Cirkin and Gent’s Archie Brown are the two names that have been mentioned in recent weeks.
Dennis Cirkin has been one of the standout fullbacks in the championship over the past few seasons. He scored five goals in the 2022/23 season; the defender has very good movement in and around the box. It will be difficult to do a deal with promotion rivals, but nothing is off the table.
Archie Brown has also popped up on Leeds’ radar. The former Derby County defender has made a career for himself in Belgium. Brown is highly rated and has drawn interest from Premier League clubs.
Junior Firpo’s time at Elland Road might be up
Junior Firpo has been at Leeds for the past three years. Since he arrived from Barcelona in 2021, he has had ups and downs at the club. He was in and out of the team under various managers. Firpo only gained some consistency over the past few seasons, the fullback provided seven assists last year – one of the highest tallies in the league among left backs.
The 28-year old’s contract expires in the summer and it looks like he will not be staying after it ends. Firpo is free to negotiate with clubs from January.
