Leeds United set to make move for Ligue 1 star?

Leeds United have been a transfer hub lately being linked with a January move for Liverpool ace Tyler Morton or indeed a move for an exciting striker to replace Patrick Bamford which you can read about here.

But the big news this week was the signing of Josuha Guilavogui on a contract until the end of the 2024/25 season, subject to a work permit.

Guilavogui began his career with Saint Etienne in France, playing over 100 times for the club after progressing through the youth system. Whilst with Les Verts, he helped the team to win the Coupe de la Ligue in 2012/13.

Strong performances for his club impressed the national team bosses too, which saw the midfielder earn a call up for his country in 2013, gaining the first of seven caps for Les Bleus, adding to his 15 appearances for the Under-21s.

In the summer of 2013, Atletico Madrid moved to secure Guilavogui’s signature, and he played in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League during his time in Spain, prior to moving to the Bundesliga.

Initially joining VfL Wolfsburg on loan, he made the move permanent and went on to play over 250 times for the German side. Success came with the club, who lifted both the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup.

More recently, Guilavogui has played for Bordeaux and Mainz 05, gaining further experience at the top level in France and Germany.

However, he may not be the last player with a link to France to make it through the door at Elland Road.

According to reports, Leeds United could be about to re-ignite their interest in Englishman Jonathan Rowe from Marseille after their £7 million offer to Norwich City was bettered by the French side who offered a £17 million loan to buy deal as Leeds missed out on their Summerville replacement.

Now though it is being reported that Leeds could re-ignite their interest in Rowe sparked by the comments from Sky Sports pundit Dan Goodman who told MOT Leeds News: “I applaud Leeds for sticking to their guns in the summer and I have no doubt Rowe will come back to the UK in the not-too-distant future.

“If that happens, Leeds may be there for him again, and this time possibly as a Premier League club.”

If this were to come to pass, it would be a major boost for Leeds especially in the Premier League.

In our opinion, this is exactly the kind of signing Leeds should be looking to make and we think it could happen but only if they return to the Premier League.
