Leeds United set to ‘open talks’ with Ligue 1 star – interest from other European clubs

Leeds United are finally set to address the goalkeeping problem. The club have been adding some quality depth to different areas of the team so far this summer.

The Whites have added some serious names to the attack and the defence. There are even plans to add another striker to the team, with Besiktas’ Semih Kilicsoy making the headlines. Leeds have added Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw to the squad; all three players have experience in a top European league.

But the quality between the sticks is a serious need this summer. Daniel Farke and the recruitment team have to try and get a new keeper through the door before pre season.

Leeds have been in the market for a new keeper since the summer window opened. The club reportedly offered Illan Meslier to multiple clubs, but no one has sent an official bid. There was reportedly interest from Turkey, but nothing has materialised so far.

The Whites have had serious interest in Nick Pope, but the Newcastle man will reportedly stay at St. James’ Park. Sam Johnstone and Aaron Ramsdale have also been linked.

Now, Transfer expert Ekrem Konur is reporting that Leeds have serious interest in signing Angers keeper Yahia Fofana. The report adds that the Whites are ready to open talks soon, with clubs in Italy and France interested. Previous reports suggest the Ivorian international could be available for just £6million.

Yahia Fofana is a solid option

The 24-year old is a very good keeper, and would definitely be an upgrade on Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow. The rumoured fee is also a great price for a keeper of his calibre.

Fofana is a great shot stopper, and can command his box, and come off his line. His passing and footwork could use work; his accuracy ranks among the lowest in Ligue 1. Hopefully Daniel Farke can fix that if a deal goes through.
