Leeds United set to swoop in for striker as Everton make transfer decision

Last season, Joel Piroe had to play a huge chunk of minutes as the starting striker for Leeds United. The Dutchman ended the season as the club’s topscorer.

However, the reaction from the fans and pundits was not what people would expect from a player that scored 19 league goals. Leeds were the best attack in the Championship last season. The Whites managed to score 95 goals in Daniel Farke’s ultra attacking system. Wingers and fullbacks combined to create loads of chances for the center forward.

And even with that, Piroe managed to put in subpar performances in some games – he even went nine games without a goal.

After last season, it raised questions about Piroe’s ability to play in the Premier League. He will have competition this summer after Leeds signed Lukas Nmecha, and could still add another striker.

Everton looking to sign new strikers

Speaking of strikers, Everton are in the market to sign a few. Recent reports also suggested that the Toffees would return to sign Jack Harrison later this summer. But for now, David Moyes is keen on adding a number nine this summer. Everton have lined up a move for Thierno Barry, and could add Millwall striker Mihailo Ivanovic.

According to Football Insider, Leeds United are keeping a close eye on the situation at Everton. With Moyes set to complete a move for Theirno Barry, Beto’s future may be up in the air. The report also adds that the Toffees could consider letting the 27-year old go this summer.

Former scout Mick Brown had this to say about the situation:

“…Everton are pushing ahead with signing a new striker, so it looks like they might share that view.

“Obviously, they’ve lost Calvert-Lewin, but from what I hear the new striker is going to go straight into the starting XI which would push Beto out.

“One team who we have spoken about before looking at Beto is Leeds.

“We know they want to sign a new striker and he’s one of the names on their radar.”

Beto would lead the line for Leeds

If Beto does arrive at Elland Road this summer, he will immediately become the starting striker. What the 27-year old showed last season was nothing short of incredible.

He was able to drag Everton to win some big games, scoring eight goals in the campaign. Beto is great at hold up and dominant in the air, he would be the perfect striker for Daniel Farke’s system.
