Leeds United stance on Patrick Bamford revealed – new signing could have an impact

With more arrivals expected at Elland Road this summer, some Leeds United players find their place in the team under threat. The club knows that they cannot keep the same crop of players next season.

The Premier League is a tough competition, and the gap in quality is ruthless. For the last two seasons, all three promoted clubs have been sent back down to the Championship. And just last year, Ipswich Town and Leicester City failed to get more than 30 points in the top flight after hitting more than 80 points the previous season.

There has been one addition to the squad this summer; Lukas Nmecha has arrived on a free transfer. The forward is expected to provide some much needed quality to the front line.

Leeds will now have Joel Piroe, Lukas Nmecha and Mateo Joseph as options up top next season. Graham Smyth reported that a new center forward could join the club.

Speaking on the Inside Elland Road podcast, the journalist has revealed what this means for Patrick Bamford:

“It was all done and dusted by the mid-afternoon, first signing [Nmecha] through the door. Quite experienced now, he’s had his fair share of injuries. The two-year deal reflects a lot of how Leeds see this deal, they see him as a squad player,”

Smyth then suggests that Bamford is expendable this summer.

“Yes, he comes with an injury CV as Daniel Farke would say, but he’s a player they think can help, it’s an interesting one because it has ramifications and there are natural questions when you see this transfer. This is what Patrick Bamford was doing last season, so what does it mean?”

Bamford should not be playing minutes next season

With the arrival of Nmecha, and possibly an extra striker, Patrick Bamford should not be seeing the pitch next season. His time at the club is at an end. The 31-year old does not really have much to offer as a player, and should just be a presence in the dressing room

If a good enough offer comes in, Leeds should consider selling the striker.
