Leeds United star could be set for exit after transfer development

Ahead of the January transfer window, the names linked with Leeds United have hinted that one player will not be at the club for long.

It has been widely reported that the club will be using the January window to sign capable reinforcements as they seek to challenge for promotion once again.

Leeds United finished last season with 90 points and 81 goals as they reached the Championship playoff final. Unfortunately they lost to Southampton.

This season has started well, and fans at Elland Road are starting to believe the club can achieve promotion this season. Daniel Farke has guided his team to third place in the league, boasting one of the best attacks alongside the third best defensive record. Leeds United are just two points off the top of the table.

Leeds United have been linked with two left backs, with the future of Junior Firpo still uncertain. The 28-year old will be free to enter talks with other clubs on January 1st, with his contract expiring in the summer. The whites have now targeted two top class defenders in the transfer market.

Sunderland left back Dennis Cirkin is on the club’s radar after he scored five goals a few seasons ago. The 22-year old is one of the best talents in the championship. It does not look like he will be ready to leave, with a reported £15million price tag.

Gent defender Archie Brown has also been linked with the club. The England U20 star is one of Europe’s top talents after impressing in the Belgian league so far. Leeds will have a fight on their hands as Premier League sides Spurs and Chelsea are also lurking.

Junior Firpo’s time at the club has come to an end

It is clear that with Leeds United targeting two young fullbacks, that Junior Firpo will not be at the club after this season. The 28-year old’s reluctance to clear the air over his future and the silence from the club over potential contract talks is also a big indication.

Firpo has done well to turn his career around after an average start in the Premier League. Under Daniel Farke, the Dominican international has looked every bit like a former Barcelona player. His seven assists last season showed how good of a player he can be. The worst thing about this situation is how Leeds will have to take a loss on the €15million fee they paid years ago.
