Leeds United have made three new signings this summer. But the club know that they have to work on departures due to financial regulations.
The Whites have been flirting with Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) since last year. Leeds reportedly sold Archie Gray for big money last summer to improve their financial standings. The club know that they have to be careful this summer. January saw little to no activity as the club was worried about PSR.
Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe promised the fans that the ownership will help keep the club in the top flight. Multiple reports have suggested that Daniel Farke will have up to £120million to spend during the transfer window. But the club will still need to balance the books. Illan Meslier, Sam Greenwood, Darko Gyabi and Joe Gelhardt were the main candidates to be sold earlier in the window.

Leeds United star speaks about his future

Max Wober became the first player to leave the club on a transfer this summer. The Austrian joined Werder Bremen on loan with an option to buy. Initial reports suggested that it would be a permanent move, but the details of the move were changed as Leeds wanted to record a loss on Wober’s sale on their 2025/26 books.
The 27-year old hinted that he could move to Germany long-term in his first interview. Wober told the club’s media that he expects to be a father later this year:
”Basically, I wanted to return to the Bundesliga. I’ll become a father for the first time in December, and when my wife is happy, it makes everything easier. The club has a great appeal, and I had the chance to speak with Horst Steffen. After the 45-minute conversation, I immediately told Johannes Jahns and my management that I wanted to join Werder. Because something is being built here, and if the coach can get the right mood into the team and we can pass that on to the fans, a lot is possible this season.”
Max Wober may not return next season
There are many reasons why the defender could choose not to return to Elland Road. He left on bad terms, after reports indicated that he fell out with Daniel Farke over a year ago. Wober also pushed for the move this summer, and with a child on the way, there is very little chance that he moves his family back to England from Germany.
Sebastiaan Bornauw will be the ideal replacement
Bornauw is a very good option to replace Wober. He was a cheap signing who can fill into the first team when called up. The defender also fits the profile Leeds have focused on this summer. He is tall and strong, and can withstand the demands of expansive football.
It will be interesting how Daniel Farke uses him in the Premier League next season.
