Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has some tendencies that do not go down well with fans, and players. But what is undeniable is how bold the German is when it comes to decisions.
He benched Illan Meslier for Karl Darlow which lead to Leeds winning the Championship. But some of his other choices this season have left fans baffled, and sometimes, players frustrated. Farke’s insistence on working with a small squad sometimes comes at the expense of some players.
This season, he focused on a small core of players – limiting some first team stars to cameos all season. Largie Ramazani and Isaac Schmidt were summer signings, but barely saw the pitch this season.

One of the first team stars who got frustrated this season was Joe Gelhardt. The forward had been at the club for years, and his chances of breaking into the starting XI decreased ever season. So, after making just two appearances in the first half of the season, he spoke to Daniel Farke and went on loan to Hull City.
There he made 20 appearances scoring five goals. The Tigers were keen on making his move permanent, but the club recently sacked coach Ruben Selles, making a deal for Gelhardt difficult.
The 23-year old gave his parting message to Hull City, as he will return to Leeds United this summer.
“I just look back at it with good memories and good people that I’ve met along the way.” he said to Hull Live.
“I’ve enjoyed every single minute that I’ve been here. The wins are even better when you’ve had a few losses as well, so just happiness and good memories.
“It’s been good. I’ve enjoyed my football so much here, the lads, the staff and the fans, just the club in general. I love it here, so thanks to the manager for trusting me and getting me to enjoy my football.”
Only one option for Joe Gelhardt
Leeds would just be wasting Gelhardt’s time by keeping him at the club next season. It is clear that he wants to leave the club and go somewhere he can play meaningful minutes. The club has to be open to all offers this summer. There might even be a chance that Leeds make a profit off the 23-year old when the window opens.
