Leeds United spent over £100 million this summer, adding 10 new players to the first team at Elland Road. The club chiefs promised after winning promotion that they would spend ‘every penny’ upon their return to the top flight.
The recruitment team added a new goalkeeper, bolstered the defence, and added Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff to the midfield. The lack of quality names in the attack lead the fans to complain about the last few weeks of the transfer window. Leeds eventually brought in Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Noah Okafor and Lukas Nmecha.
The two strikers have combined to score 11 league goals for the Whites, and have been among the best performers this season. Calvert-Lewin especially, has played so well this season, earning plaudits from former England man Jermaine Defoe.
Leeds United star linked with shock exit
Even though most of the arrivals have made a huge impact on the team, some players have not fared well so far. Anton Stach, Sean Longstaff and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have grabbed the headlines as the season has gone on. Others have yet to even touch the pitch this campaign.
| Competition | Games | Minutes Played |
|---|---|---|
| Premier League | 2 | 9 |
| EFL Cup | 1 | 90 |
This includes players like Sebastiaan Bornauw and James Justin. Justin has gotten substitute appearances off the bench, but Bornauw has rarely seen the pitch. Now, BILD are reporting that FC Koln are keen on bringing the Belgian defender to the Bundesliga. The German side have seen two of their first choice center backs Timo Hubers and Luca Kilian ruled out for the rest of the season.
Club should explore Sebastiaan Bornauw to FC Koln move
If FC Koln do indeed attempt to make a move for Bornauw, Leeds should consider it. He has rarely played in this season and it is clear that Daniel Farke is not a big fan of his. The German side will be desperate for reinforcements, and the Whites have a player who is struggling for minutes.
Because he was signed in the summer, a loan deal will be the only option. According to the report, Koln believe that it will be hard to sign Bornauw because Leeds will needed center back depth since switching to the 3-5-2. With Jaka Bijol now a starter, it leaves the Belgian as the only center back option on the bench.
