Leeds United star makes bold claim about championship rival

Leeds United have bounced back this season after a disappointing end to last year’s campaign.

The Whites lost the Championship playoff final to Southampton, who were eventually promoted to the Premier League. Failure to secure top flight football set off a list of events during the summer. A host of players departed Elland Road, with some moving to the Premier League. Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter were the key players that left the club.

The trio had an outstanding campaign in 2023/24; Summerville scored 19 goals and won EFL Championship player of the year, Gray was named in the EFL Championship team of the year, and Rutter provided 15 assists in the league. Former Leeds man Glen Kamara also left the club, saying that the playoff final loss made it difficult for him to return.

Leeds brought in seven first team signings to replace the key players they lost. Manor Solomon, Largie Ramazani, Ao Tanaka and Joe Rodon were some of the big names that arrived. Jayden Bogle signed from Sheffield United to become the club’s first choice right back this season.

Bogle scored two goals and created five big chances in the Championship last season. The 24-year old started this season slowly, but has found his feet in this team. Leeds United have the third best defence in the Championship. Bogle has now opened up on his move from Sheffield United this summer, saying the main difference between Leeds and his former club is ‘mentality’:

“I’d say just the feeling and mentality of the place. From the minute I spoke to people from the place I just sensed there was one goal, which is obviously to get promoted and win as many games as possible.

“Approaching every game with the mindset of we’re winning this game. I would say the mindset of the whole club, fanbase, support, atmosphere at the ground, all of them things bring a winning feeling to the place.”

Bogle has been a fine addition to the team

It has been very early in the season, but the young fullback has proved that he could be the club’s long term starter. He scored his second goal of the season against QPR just before the international break. Leeds United are also in the market for a long term left back, with Junior Firpo set to leave the club in 2025.
