Junior Firpo is prepared to open discussions over a new contract with Leeds United but is keen to understand the club’s ambitions moving forward.
Firpo has only grown in stature during his stay at Leeds over the last few years and is now one of the first names on Daniel Farke’s team sheets.
The 28-year-old left-back is a certain starter when fit and is expected to line up in the team when Leeds take on Burnley at Elland Road on Saturday.
He disagreed with the club when Leeds blocked him from representing the Dominican Republic in the Olympics but that is unlikely to be an issue moving forward.
The defender is in the final year of his contract and Leeds are keen to tie him down to a new deal at Elland Road.
Firpo is open to signing a new Leeds United contract but wants to hear about the club’s goals
According to Teamtalk, the left-back has signalled to the club that he would be open to discussing a new contract with Leeds and tying his future down in West Yorkshire.
He and his family are settled in Leeds and the defender is prepared to consider fresh terms to extend his stay at Elland Road in the coming years.
However, it is not a done deal yet as Firpo wants to understand the club’s ambitions and goals moving forward before committing his long-term future to Leeds.
Leeds would have to present a compelling financial offer to the player and convince him that his future lies at Elland Road.
Talks are expected to take place between the two sides soon as they seek to reach an agreement over a new deal.
Given his current contract expires next summer, Firpo can agree on a pre-contract with clubs outside England from 1st January onwards if he is to leave Leeds.
The defender would be keen to return to Spain if he decides to move on from Leeds next year.
