Leeds star reflects on ‘great’ achievement after winning player of the month award

Leeds United midfielder Brenden Aaronson has reportedly raked in overseas interest

Leeds United’s Brenden Aaronson was the first player this 2024-25 season to be voted Player of the Month award by the fans. In August, the American international scored two goals, one against Portsmouth and the other against Sheffield Wednesday.

As a result, this production last month was enough for supporters to vote for Aaronson to secure the first individual award of the season.

The 23-year-old had intense competition for August’s JD Sports Player of the Month award, securing 28 percent of the vote. Mateo Joseph came in second with 20 percent, followed by Junior Firpo with 16 percent and Pascal Struijk with 11 percent.

Brenden Aaronson: Honor to receive Player of the Month award

After receiving the award, Aaronson talked to Leeds’ official website about how honored he feels to be recognized by the fans.

“It feels amazing to have been voted for this award,” Aaronson said. “To come back and have the start that I’ve had, it’s been a lot of ups and downs, but to come out the other side and feel the way that I’ve felt, it’s been really good. The fans have been behind me, as have my teammates and coaching staff, it’s been great.”

Moreover, the attacking player spotlighted his performance against Sheffield Wednesday as his standout performance of the month, which eventually led to his award.

“I would probably say the goal against Sheffield Wednesday,” Aaronson added. “It was a tough game, a lot of fighting, a lot of lost balls in the beginning, but then to score the goal to calm the game down, felt great and I really liked the goal.”

With Leeds losing a lot of offensive firepower this past summer, the Whites need production from all players. Moreover, they need players to step up and take advantage of any opportunities they’re given.

It’s early in the season, but Aaronson is raising his hand to show manager Daniel Farke that he can be counted on to chip in offensively. Will it be enough for Leeds to stay in contention at least until the January window when they can make improvements? It remains to be seen if the current squad can stay within striking distance of the top two spots.
