Leeds United returned from the international break on Friday night with a vital 2-0 victory over Sheffield United at Elland Road, an important result against a fellow promotion contender.

After a scoreless first half, Leeds United found their stride in the second. Pascal Struijk opened the scoring in the 69th minute, and Mateo Joseph added a late goal in the 90th, ensuring all three points.

Moreover, on the defensive side, the squad put together a clean sheet performance that will be a confidence booster for Illan Meslier, who is coming off his Sunderland mishap that allowed the match to finish in a draw.

Joe Rodon reacts to impressive home win

The team’s performance after the FIFA international break allowed Rodon to express his delight following their 2-0 victory over Sheffield United at Elland Road.

“What happened just before the break, we were very disappointed and all of us as a group, we weren’t satisfied so it was important to be in front of our home fans and put on a show for them and a strong performance and I thought we did that,Rodon told LUTV.

“At the end of the day, if you don’t concede goals, you’re going to win games, so we’re delighted to get back on the clean sheets.

“The whole squad, everyone is working hard together and we’re all one team so we know it’s a very long season and a tough season so we’re gonna need everyone and like I said, the recovery starts tonight and we’ll be ready for Tuesday.”

Leeds need to regroup quickly as they take on Watford this Tuesday night, following the latter’s Saturday loss to Luton Town. The Whites are pushing for a second straight win to retake second place as the competition heats up after Burnley leaped over them following their Saturday victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Moreover, three players will need to be on alert heading into the Watford match as Junior Firpo, Joe Rodon, and Jayden Bogle are now just one booking away from a suspension. Firpo received a late yellow card in last night’s game, leaving all three players with nine matches until December 7 to avoid another booking.
