Leeds United made a statement with their results in the league this week.
The Whites returned from the international break with a bang. Unlike the last international break where Daniel Farke’s players were in action 72 hours before their next league game, this time they arrived early. All of the Leeds players came back in time and had enough days rest. The fact that the Swansea game was on Sunday was a boost for the club.
Leeds picked up a hard fought win away from home last Sunday. They became just the second team to beat Swansea at home. It took a late winner from Wilfried Gnonto to secure all three points. The win moved the club to the top of the Championship temporarily.

Leeds United star slammed for Wednesday night incident
Leeds recorded another win on Wednesday to get back to the top spot. After 17 league games, Leeds have 32 points and are joint-top of the league. Farke’s men cruised past Luton Town at Elland Road. Goals from Sam Byram, Joel Piroe and Dan James completed a comfortable 3-0 win.
However, the game could have ended a lot different in the first half. Early on in the game, Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier made a rash decision to come off his line and almost cost his team a goal. Victor Moses was able to get to the ball first and tried to chip Meslier, and it took a goal-line clearance from Pascal Struijk to preserve the lead for Leeds.
After the game, Graham Smyth criticised the French keeper for his decision making that almost lead to an easy Luton goal:
“Luton did have two chances. Meslier, I didn’t like the kind of aggressive approach to that,” he said.
“You stay on your post. I don’t think Victor Moses beats you from there, and you’ve got players coming back. Well, he comes out, gets dinked, and Struijk, an incredible clearance.”
Leeds went into half time in the lead and finished the game off in the second half. Daniel Farke encountered another issue after the game as Sam Byram seemed to have picked up a knock.
Illan Meslier’s position is still questionable
Despite being chosen as the club’s number one by multiple coaches, Illan Meslier has still not been able to shake the errors he commits. It followed him in the Premier League and even lead to him getting benched. He has been better over the past year, but the performance against Swansea was not the best. And this incident is the latest topic on his goalkeeping ability.
