Aside signing reinforcements, Leeds United will also be worried about potential departures in January.
Daniel Farke could not have asked for a better start after the international break. Leeds grabbed an away win at the Swansea stadium on Sunday. Farke’s men are only the second team in the league to beat the Swans at their home this season. It was a tough game, but the team pulled through in the end.
Daniel Farke’s decision to start Manor Solomon paid off as he scored a crucial brace in the match. The Leeds boss also brought on Wilfried Gnonto late in the game, and the Italian scored the winner. Leeds sit in first place on 32 points, tied with Sunderland and Sheffield United.
Ahead of the January transfer window, Leeds will have to sort of departures as they look to add more players to a depleted squad.
QUIZ: Can you name these 10 Leeds United players from the 2000s?
Leeds United star has asked to leave the club
Eight outfield players have had less than five games this season. Out of the eight, three are academy players including James Debayo, one is Georginio Rutter who left after one game and the rest include free agent signing Josuha Guilavogui, Isaac Schmidt and Max Wober. Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt round out the list.
Gelhardt has made just two appearances this season, and has played a total of 12 league games under Daniel Farke. According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the 22-year old could leave the club permanently in search of first team minutes. Rangers are one of the clubs linked with the young forward.
Daniel Farke recently mentioned that the reason Gelhardt does not make the matchday squad is not due to injury:
“I can’t always take four strikers . It’s tough for him but I have to praise his attitude and his performances in training. Need this. He has to make sure he prepares himself for when the chance will come,” he said.
“Sometimes there are chances out of injuries, illness and bookings. Has to be ready for when his chance comes and grab it when it comes. A really top class human being, he’s a quality player, lots of options.”
Gelhardt needs first team football
Joe Gelhardt proved that he can play at a high level when he was on loan at Sunderland two seasons ago. The forward had three goals and three assists in half a season. Daniel Farke needs to make a decision on his future. Gelhardt has three years left on his deal, and if he has a very good stint on loan he could easily be sold for a profit.
