Leeds United have done well to strengthen their squad since getting promoted to the Premier League at the end of last season. However, a lot of work is still left to be done to bring in more players, and the club are also working on a few exits this summer.

Sporting director Adam Underwood and the rest of the recruitment team at Leeds have earned praise for the work they have carried out this summer. However, their failure to land Igor Paixao has shown not everything has gone according to plan, and the club are still in the market for more players.

Leeds have turned their attention towards signing forwards, and the club are keen to bring in a wide attacker and a striker before the end of the summer transfer window.

However, player exits will also dictate the club’s transfer business in the coming weeks, and it has been claimed that the anticipated departure of a defender is yet to be finalised.

Can you name these 10 former Leeds United defenders?

Key terms are yet to be agreed upon for Isaac Schmidt’s Leeds United departure

It emerged earlier this week that Isaac Schmidt has agreed on a deal in principle to join German club Werder Bremen on loan in the summer transfer window.

The Swiss defender hardly played for Leeds last season, and ahead of next summer’s World Cup, he is keen to play more football to get into the Switzerland team.

It was suggested that the deal was still dependent on Leeds signing a replacement, but according to Kicker, there is still some way to go before the defender could join Werder Bremen.

Leeds have been exploring potential replacements, but key aspects of the loan deal remain to be agreed upon between the two clubs.

Werder Bremen want to sign Schmidt, but there is still no clarity over whether he will actually join the club this summer.

It is still to be finalised whether the German club want to insert an option to buy or an obligation to buy in the loan agreement to sign Schmidt this summer.

Schmidt’s pushing to leave makes sense

Leeds signed the Swiss defender towards the end of the transfer window last summer, and it was some time before the fans got to see him in action.

He mostly played in the cup games and hardly featured in the Championship. Daniel Farke’s insistence on consistency in team selection meant Schmidt was always looking in from the outside.

Jayden Bogle was a certainty in right-back, and even when Junior Firpo was injured, Sam Byram was preferred over Schmidt in the starting eleven.

With Gabriel Gudmundsson joining and Byram signing a new contract, it makes sense for Schmidt to try and move on from Elland Road this summer.
