Leeds United target £2M-rated Norwich City star – He could be signed by the end of the season

Karl Darlow has now been in goal for the last four games for Leeds United. Daniel Farke’s decision to bench Illan Meslier seems to be paying off as Leeds close in on Premier League promotion.

After the club dropped points in their terrible run of games that saw Daniel Farke’s side pick up one win in their last five, a huge change was made. Illan Meslier was once again at fault as Swansea shocked Leeds to take a draw.

Karl Darlow was made the starter against Luton Town, and since then he has never looked back. Four games, three wins and just two goals conceded has put the club on track for automatic promotion. Opta now gives the Whites a 99% chance of being promoted to the Premier League.

Over the past few weeks, Leeds have been linked with multiple targets in their search for a new goalkeeper. Aaron Ramsdale has been linked, but with a hefty £30million price tag, it may be a difficult transfer to complete. Liverpool star Caomhin Kelleher is also another option with a more affordable price tag.

A new keeper has emerged; Norwich City’s Angus Gunn. Football Insider have reported that Leeds are long term admirers and will pursue a move for the 29-year old this summer. Gunn is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, but Norwich are keen on offering him a new deal. With Leeds set for Premier League football next season, they need to find a first choice keeper quickly.

Is Angus Gunn really an upgrade?

Looking at the statistics, Illan Meslier has been a better performer than Angus Gunn this season. He has failed to prevent even more goals than the Frenchman this year. A lot of his numbers are unimpressive across board.

Despite his experience, and the fact that he has played Premier League football, there is not really anything outstanding about the Scotland international. Maybe Leeds United are eager to get an experienced option who can start in the Premier League for free. But if Daniel Farke wants a long term option in goal, he needs to look elsewhere.
