Leeds United are focused on strengthening their squad this season in hopes of getting promoted. Unlike last season where they played in the playoffs, The Whites are aiming for a direct promotion this time.
But following the failure to get promoted, The 49ers have seen major departures leaving big gaps in the squad. One of the bigger ones without a doubt has been Crysencio Summerville.
The Dutchman left to join West Ham United in a deal worth £25 million. Summerville was arguably the best player in the Championship. He contributed to 31 goals last season which helped him win the Championship Player of the Season.
The departure of such a player is set to leave a big dent in the squad. United is in search of replacements and Jonathan Rowe seems to be the top priority for the club at the moment.
The West Yorkshire outfit made a bid worth £7 million for the player which was rejected by Norwich City. The Canaries are keen on selling the Englishman on a high despite having only a year left on his contract.
With French giants Marseille entering the race, things looked shaky for United. But as Norwich demanded £15 million for the player, Les Olympiens have withdrawn from the trade.
Leeds United identify Million Manhoef as Plan B to Jonathan Rowe
As Jesurun Rak-Sakyi slipped through Leeds’ hands, the club has identified another backup to Jonathan Rowe. According to TEAMtalk, United are now interested in Stoke City’s Million Manhoef.
Reports also suggest that there are other unnamed sides involved who’d like to swoop the winger. Manhoef is a primary backup for The Whites if the Rowe deal doesn’t go through.
The Dutchman signed for The Potters in February this year from Vitesse. He is the son of Dutch mixed martial artist and kickboxer Melvin Manhoef.
Manhoef has made 16 appearances for Stoke till now scoring four and assisting two in the process. The winger was in the top 10 per cent in the Championship for goals per 90, shots on target, successful take-ons that led to a goal and carries into the penalty area.
The Potters though aren’t interested in selling Million despite an interest from The Whites. Stoke has valued him at more than £10 million with the hopes that The 49ers will stay out of their way.
For now, the 22-year-old stays a plan B for Leeds as The Whites are looking forward to getting Rowe on a permanent. The 49ers are preparing a new offer for The Canaries with them being the sole bidders in the race.
Are you mad?
Stoke have only recently brought the lad in (near the end of last season) why would you think they would be interested in selling?
If Leeds were naive enough to “enquire” the Potters should slap a £22m price tag on him.
