Leeds United have had a setback in their transfer plans in the last week after Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao snubbed a move to Elland Road in favour of joining Marseille. However, the club have turned their attention towards other targets, and are pushing to sort out their attack in the coming weeks.

The Whites pushed hard to sign the Feyenoord winger in the last week and even got Lucas Perri involved to convince the Brazilian to accept a transfer to Leeds. However, Paixao had his heart set on a move to Marseille and opted to join a club in the Champions League compared to a potential relegation dogfight in the Premier League.

Leeds have had to pivot, and the club are now expected to focus on signing a striker despite having other wingers on their radar. Daniel Farke wants the number 9 position to be sorted out.

However, signing a striker is also turning out to be complicated as the competition for the signature of their priority target has increased, and Leeds are now considering other alternatives.

Leeds United target Artem Dovbyk is up for sale at Roma

Artem Dovbyk has emerged as an alternative to Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz, who is now subject to enquiries from Newcastle United and Atalanta.

With Roma signing Evan Ferguson on loan this summer, Dovbyk is no longer considered unsellable at the Stadio Olimpico in the ongoing transfer window.

According to Tuttosport, the Serie A giants are prepared to listen to offers for the striker this summer and open to letting him go.

West Ham are also among the clubs interested in Dovbyk, and Roma are believed to be keen on getting a fee in the region of £35m for the striker.

Leeds are also in the transfer mix for him, and it has been claimed that the Giallorossi are expecting offers to land on their table from the Premier League.

Dovbyk could be on his way to England, and Leeds are among the clubs who are in the running for his signature in the ongoing transfer window.

Leeds’ striker search has been delayed

Leeds knew coming into the window that they needed a new number 9 who could start and lead the line in the Premier League next season.

Lukas Nmecha was snapped up as a back-up option on a free transfer early, but Leeds majorly focused on adding defenders and midfielders early in the window.

However, the longer the striker search has lasted, the more complicated and expensive it has become over the last few weeks. The involvement of Newcastle and Atalanta has given Fulham further incentive to ask for more money for Muniz.

Dovbyk is a legitimate option, but even Roma are demanding big money for a forward who scored 12 goals in Serie A last season and is unproven in England.

Leeds need to act fast and ensure they have a staring number 9 in the building before the first game of the season,
