Leeds United tipped to complete “massive coup”

Leeds United will face competition in January for some of their transfer targets.

The club has set their sights of strengthening the team in the January window to gear up for another promotion push. Leeds narrowly missed out on the Premier League last season when they lost to Southampton in the Championship play off final.

Daniel Farke has Leeds flying high in third place, just two points behind Sunderland and Sheffield United. The club also have one of the best attacks in the league, and also boast of a top three defensive record.

The Whites have set their sights on one promising star who could be a long term replacement for one of the players currently at Leeds United.

Leeds United have been linked with Gent star Archie Brown. The 22-year old has been making waves across Europe since he left Derby County as a teenager. Leeds will have serious competition in the form of Chelsea. Other Premier League sides have also lined up Brown as a transfer target.

Former Leeds player Carlton Palmer has said Archie Brown should reject a move to the Premier League:

“Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are among the clubs reportedly interested in Gent defender Archie Brown.

“This is not the first time Leeds United have been interested in Archie Brown. The 22-year-old left England in 2021 after coming through the ranks at Derby County.

“He sought pastures new, starting in Switzerland with Lausanne-Sport. He swapped Switzerland for Belgium last year, joining Gent, and he’s seen his career go from strength-to-strength.

“He’s played that well, he’s been rewarded with an England youth debut in the summer, and he’s attracting a lot of attention.”

Palmer has also pointed out that any chance Leeds United have of signing Archie Brown will depend on Premier League football.

“The problem that Leeds United will have is that they’ll have to be in the Premier League to get him, so it’s unlikely that they’ll get him in the January transfer window, especially with the likes of Tottenham and West Ham credited with an interest, as well as Chelsea and Brentford.”

Signing Archie Brown would be a big ask

The 22-year old defender has previously mentioned that he would like to return to play at the highest level in England. Leeds would need to present a solid case to the youngster, as well as win promotion to the Premier League.

Financially, the club will be able to afford to sign Brown. First team football will almost certainly be guaranteed too. It is unlikely that Leeds sign the defender in January, but he would be the ideal target in the summer.
