Leeds United tipped to complete shock signing to replace star man

Leeds United are still looking for ways to improve the first team ahead of the January transfer window.

Leeds currently sit top of the championship, tied on 32 points with Sheffield United and Sunderland. The club jumped to the top of the table after capitalizing on their promotion rivals dropping points on Saturday. Daniel Farke’s men won a thrilling end to end encounter at the Swansea stadium on Sunday.

Manor Solomon scored a brace and Wilfried Gnonto calmly finished a last minute winner to seal all three points. Leeds United became only the second team to beat Swansea at their home this season. The Whites knew the match would be tough, after Burnley boss Scott Parker warned them about how good the Swans were at their home.

Just three months into the season, Leeds United lost their first choice midfield pairing within weeks of each other. Ethan Ampadu picked up a serious knee injury in the game against Coventry in September. In the next game against Norwich, Gruev was substituted off after just 20 minutes. The injuries were devastating but the following weeks showed how good Leeds United had become.

Joe Rothwell was the one who replaced Gruev after just 20 minutes against Norwich. Leeds brought the Bournemouth midfielder in on loan, and since he entered the starting lineup he has been consistently solid. The 29-year old has been a calm presence alongside fellow summer signing Ao Tanaka in midfield. Tanaka and Rothwell have shown their quality in the absence of Gruev and Ampadu.

According to reports, Daniel Farke is looking to bring in another midfielder as he seeks to boost the squad in January. Leeds are looking at Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill. The Clarets star is having one of his best campaigns at Turf Moor this season, and is currently the club’s top scorer. Brownhill’s contract at the club expires in 2025 and Leeds are one of the clubs interested in him. They will have competition on their hands as Premier League clubs and Scottish clubs are also in the race.

Should Leeds sign Brownhill?

Fans at Elland Road have seen how injuries affected the team, to the extent that a 34-year old free agent arrived midseason to provide depth. Brownhill would be a great signing, and fits the mould of a player who would not look out of place when Leeds are promoted to the Premier League.
