Leeds United will not stand in the way of any potential departure from the club in the January transfer window.
After Leeds lost the Championship playoff final in May, some players left the club. Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter joined Premier League clubs for huge fees. Other players like Glen Kamara left the club because a very good offer came in. Daniel Farke tried to fight to keep some of the players, but eventually respected their wishes.
Gray, Summerville and Rutter all had amazing seasons in the league last year, but could not pass up on the chance to experience Premier League football. Heading into this season, Daniel Farke had to make the most of the squad, and was able to add a few signings including midfielder Ao Tanaka.

Leeds United will make a decision on star player
With how well the team has been doing this season, some players have not had a chance in the first team. Isaac Schmidt was signed in the summer and has yet to break into the starting lineup. Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt have also had to do with a place on the bench with the form of Brenden Aaronson and Joel Piroe so far.
The emergence of Mateo Joseph over the past year has meant Gelhardt has become just a squad player. One of the most promising talents Leeds had in their team has never fully embraced his potential. Now, the 22-year old is looking for a move in January and reportedly has a lot of interest. Former Leeds man Carlton Palmer has said Daniel Farke will not block any potential moves for Joe Gelhardt:
“Joe Gelhardt, the young Leeds United centre-forward, has had very limited game time at Elland Road under Daniel Farke, so it makes sense that they allow him to go out on loan in January,” he said.
“I don’t believe that Daniel Farke will stand in his way, he has Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph in front of him in the pecking order at Elland Road, but he has stated that his priority is to get the club promoted and, unfortunately, players who haven’t been allowed to go out on loan have to stay in the building in case they pick up injuries.”
Leaving in January is the best option
Joe Gelhardt impressed on loan at Sunderland a few seasons ago, but has failed to break into the Leeds first team. Since he recovered from his hip problem, he has not been named in recent matchday squads. A move in January is the best option for Leeds United.
