Leeds United tipped to replace star man with shock transfer

Leeds United lost Georginio Rutter to Brighton late in the summer transfer window.

The Premier League club triggered the French player’s £40million release clause in August. Brighton stole the march on other clubs as they triggered the clause just before midnight when it was set to expire.

Rutter departed Elland Road after a fantastic season in the Championship. The 22-year old had six goals and 15 assists in the league last year. After a shaky start to his Leeds career in the Premier League where he only managed to play 11 games, the forward turned his career around and showed why the club spent big money on him.

According to The Scottish Sun, Leeds United are looking to sign Ryan Kent on a free transfer. The forward was released from Fenerbahce recently. The injury problems of Dan James and Patrick Bamford recently could have sped up the process to potentially sign the former Rangers player.

The Whites will face competition from an ambitious Leyton Orient, who are also after the 27-year old. Kent might have not played a lot of football in the past year, but his last full season at Rangers saw him score three goals and provide eight assists.

A return to English football seems to be on the cards, but the report claims that there is also interest from Saudi Arabia.

Would Ryan Kent be a good fit at Leeds United?

The 27-year old had his four year contract terminated with the Scottish side after playing just four games in the whole of 2024.

Kent would come into the team lacking match fitness, but there is evidence that at his best he is a brilliant player. He averaged eight assists in his last three season in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers.

Under Steven Gerrard, he was so good that there were rumours of an England call up:

“When you get these exciting players in this form it’s only natural that people are watching them from afar, but from our point of view he’s not for sale. We don’t want him to go and we want him to keep evolving here with us,” Gerrard said, addressing reports of a potential call up.

Kent would bring a lot of experience and a fresh set of legs in attack. He can play out wide or just behind the striker, so would offer Daniel Farke a lot of options.
