Leeds United tipped to sell Brenden Aaronson this summer – Ex-Whites forward says club need new No.10

With Leeds United having secured their place in the Premier League, there is already talk of transfers this summer. While Daniel Farke and the recruitment team focus on bringing in some new faces, some players could leave the club.

Over the past few weeks there have been whispers about some potential exits. Illan Meslier is a name that has popped up a lot, since he was benched by Karl Darlow, his future at the club is up in the air. Leeds have reportedly lined up a move for Wolves keeper Sam Johnstone to be first choice next season.

Another surprise rumour revolves around Joel Piroe. There have been hints that the striker could leave, after the club was linked to George Hirst of Ipswich Town.

Joel Piroe has been at the end of a lot of criticism this season. The striker has been at the end of some horrible misses too. His partner up top Brenden Aaronson has also caught some flak near the end of the season. The attacking midfielder has been inconsistent throughout the season.

Now, CBS Sports pundit Mike Grella thinks Leeds need to sell Aaronson, as he does not have the quality needed to play in the top flight:

“For me, I think they have a lot of depth in the behind-the-striker position: so they’ve got Solomon, Ramazani, Gnonto, Aaronson, Daniel James, and they’re almost all the same player, and I think Aaronson is sort of, like, fitting in that no.10 position, but not truly a no.10. I think he can fit in one of the outside positions.

“If you’re going to play that way, maybe someone with a different skillset in that no.10 position that plays behind Piroe. A proper no.10 that will create numerical advantages that maybe he could add a little bit more to goal-scoring. I know Aaronson had a very good season goal-scoring wise, but playing also in a team that scores the most goals in the league, so that’s the position I would look to strengthen.”

Should Leeds consider selling Brenden Aaronson?

Over the last year, a lot of things have pointed to the fact that the attacking midfielder was not really Daniel Farke’s ideal choice. Leeds missed out on Gustavo Hamer and other creative attacking midfielders last summer. Aaronson only got his role in the team because he works hard and is good at pressing – he has won 32 tackles this season, the fourth highest in the team.

Leeds will definitely need legs in the high intensity Premier League, but Aaronson can definitely be upgraded on.
