Leeds United could be set to follow an interesting trend that has helped multiple teams win promotion.
The January transfer window has proven to play a key part in which teams win Premier League promotion in recent years. Just last season Ipswich Town and Southampton made key signings in the winter window that ended up helping them to reach the English top flight.
Ipswich Town signed Kieffer Moore in February 2024, and he scored seven goals in 18 games to help the team finish second and secure automatic qualification to the Premier League. Southampton signed David Brooks on loan and the midfielder had two goals and five assists in 17 games as the beat Leeds in the Championship playoff final to win promotion.
Now Leeds United are looking to follow the same path as they target a huge signing for the window.

Leeds United to sign Premier League star
Leeds are currently top of the league after 16 games. The club are level on points with Sheffield United and Sunderland. Daniel Farke’s men took advantage of his rivals’ slip up to climb to the top of the table last weekend. Now the team can focus on getting enough points between now and January, as they seek Premier League promotion.
Brighton striker Evan Ferguson is reportedly available in the upcoming window. After playing just seven games this season, the youngster is concerned with the lack of game time and could leave on a loan deal soon. Premier League teams are interested in the striker, as well as Championship sides including Burnley. The Clarets are also set to lose Josh Brownhill soon.
Leeds should push for a move for the 19 year old striker; the club has a goalscoring issue this season despite being one of the best attacks in the league. After Joel Piroe, the second highest scorer at the club is Brenden Aaronson with four goals. Piroe also has no dependable backup in this squad, and Ferguson would be the perfect fit for that role.
Could Leeds sign Ferguson?
Brighton will be very particular where they loan Ferguson out to. Leeds are in the perfect situation to take the young striker on loan. Daniel Farke is a very good coach who can help develop the teenager, and Leeds are a competitive side in the race for Premier League promotion. The club being close to Premier League football is one of the reasons Joe Rothwell joined from Bournemouth. Both teams would greatly benefit from this arrangement.
