Leeds United to be furious as £5m star attempting to force through Elland Road departure

Sebastiaan Bornauw Leeds United

Leeds United brought in 10 new players in the summer transfer window, and even with the departures in that period, the squad size was big.

Going into the Premier League, fans understood that the Whites needed to bring in more quality. Leeds improved most areas of the team including the midfield, and adding key depth to the attack.

But in the early parts of the season, Daniel Farke was reluctant to use many of the summer signings outside Anton Stach and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. It is now months into the season that he has been forced to use some players.

Sebastiaan Bornauw keen on Leeds United exit

When asked early in the season why Bornauw and Bijol barely played, he pointed out that Struijk and Rodon had started the season, making it difficult to change things. Then the switch to the back three came and Bijol found himself as a regular. It was not until Joe Rodon was out for a few weeks that Sebastiaan Bornauw featured in a few games.

Reports have now emerged that the defender is looking for a way out after making just six Premier League appearances this season. BILD are reporting that the Belgian is open to a January exit, with his agent currently offering him to clubs in Germany. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but it is believed that Leeds would like to bring in a replacement if the 24-year old is allowed to leave.

Fans will be furious at latest development

Leeds United fans have every right to be furious if Sebastiaan Bornauw wants to leave the club. Why would a player commit to join a club long term only to leave just months into his new deal. But they also need to understand it from the player’s side – he has been on the bench for most of the campaign, and only got a chance when Joe Rodon was injured.

Statistic
Games 6
Minutes played 263
Passes completed 44/57
Duels won 6/11
Tackles won 1/2

And with the Welshman back he will definitely be relegated to his bench role. This is all very normal for teams with big squads, however, why did Farke choose to sign the Belgian if he was not going to play much at all. If the fans want to direct their anger to Bornauw, they have every right to do so, but they must also question Daniel Farke and the 49ers too.
