It is no secret that since Daniel Farke took over Leeds United, he has been after one specific profile of player for years. Just before last season began, he was vocal about the club bringing in a ‘creative’ player who can play as a number 10.
That summer, the Whites pushed to sign Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer, but the Blades rejected the bid. This lead to Farke putting his trust in Brenden Aaronson that season. The American looked to be on his way out of the club, but Farke found a new role for him – and he excelled, providing 11 goal involvements that season.
Even though the Leeds boss has switched from the 4-2-3-1, he has still been looking for that creative midfielder. It lead to the club being linked with the likes of Emi Buendia and Facundo Buonanotte in the summer.
Leeds United keen on Sevilla star Ruben Vargas
Farke might finally get his wish in the January window, with reports that the club are after a player of that profile. Spanish media outlet Orgullo Biri are reporting that the Whites are preparing a formal offer to sign Sevilla star Ruben Vargas. It is said that Aston Villa and Spurs are closely monitoring the situation as well. Vargas is a versatile attacker who can play off the left, and behind the striker as well.

The report indicates that Sevilla are not convinced on letting him go, but with clubs willing to offer around £17.51 million, it could be enough to tempt the La Liga side to strike a deal.

Daniel Farke could have his own ‘Morgan Rogers’
The Leeds boss has been after a creative attacker for a while, and now he could get the chance to sign one. According to FBref, one of the most similar players to the Sevilla man is current Premier League star Morgan Rogers. Both players have quick feet and can carry the ball in central areas; something Leeds have really lacked this season.
| Statistic | Ruben Vargas (Sevilla) | Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa) |
|---|---|---|
| Games | 12 | 16 |
| Goals | 3 | 5 |
| Assists | 4 | 3 |
| Shots | 21 | 24 |
| Progressive Carries | 31 | 31 |
| Chances Created | 11 | 16 |
| Successful Dribble % | 34.6% | 35.5% |
A player like that in the side could boost the attack significantly – this season, the options in the squad have been very underwhelming. If the Whites could get their hands on a player like this and play him behind the in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the combination could go a long way to solving the club’s goalscoring woes. Whether the 49ers would be willing to spend that amount of cash next month, is a whole different topic.
