Leeds United to break Derby fans’ hearts after making approach for £20m star striker

Patrick Agyemang Leeds United

When the summer window was coming to an end, Leeds United fans complained about the lack of investment in attack. Despite spending over £100 million, only a fraction of that was used to bring in attackers.

Lukas Nmecha, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor were the only attackers signed during the summer window. Nmecha and Calvert-Lewin arrived on free transfers which did not excite the fanbase. Leeds fans were more concerned about missing out on big names like Rodrigo Muniz and Nikola Krstovic.

Then January came around; many fans did not expect the Whites to be active. But in a shock move, Leeds wrapped up a deal to sign Facundo Buonanotte on loan for the rest of the season. The Argentine cut his loan deal short at Chelsea to make the move to Elland Road.

Then Leeds began the search to add another center forward to the team, with Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen reportedly the favourite. The Athletic revealed that an enquiry had been made for the Norwegian international ahead of a potential move. It has now emerged that the selling club could be looking for up to £40 million.

Now, Football Insider are reporting that another striker is on the Whites’ radar: Patrick Agyemang. The 25-year old is reportedly valued around £20 million by Derby County. Agyemang only moved to England this season, but already has seven goals and three assists in the Championship. Crystal Palace are said to be keen on the American international, with news that Jean-Philipe Mateta wants out of the club this month.

Deal could rule out move for Wolves striker

With this news emerging, there is a high chance that Leeds will not be able to seal a move for Jorgen Strand Larsen. Despite the initial interest and ambition, the Wolves man could be out of the Whites’ price range. This is what will lead them to find alternatives like Agyemang, whose club are willing to sell him for a much lower fee around £20 million.

Regardless of all that, Leeds United are finally investing in their attack. So many times this season where the team needed goals and no one could answer. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has done well to carry the load, but the team needs another source of goals if they want to stay up this season.
