Archie Gray left Leeds United for a reported £40million this summer after a breakout season.
The young midfielder starred in Leeds 2023/24 season in the championship. Gray won EFL Championship Young Player of the Year, Leeds Young Player of the Year, and made the PFA Team of the season for the Championship.
Leeds tied Gray down to a long term deal and wanted to build the future of the club around the young man, but after failing to win promotion, the youngster made the decision to move.
Leeds United will face serious competition if they want to sign Archie Gray in January
GMS reported that Archie Gray will attract a lot of interest in January as teams look to offer him more playing time than he currently gets at Spurs.
The midfielder has not started a Premier League game this season, but has played in the Europa League and EFL cup.
Leeds are one of the teams linked with a move for their former player. But ex Leeds midfielder Carlton Palmer has warned that bringing Gray in January will not be easy:
“Tottenham are bracing themselves for a host of clubs to test the waters in regard to taking Archie Gray on loan,” he said.
“There’s talk of Premier League clubs and Championship clubs who would be interested in taking him in on loan. Gray is still well thought of by Postecoglu. He sees the 18-year-old as a very shrewd bit of business, and one which will pay off in the long term.”
“He’s highly rated, but his game time has been affected, he hasn’t had enough game time. He has only played 393 minutes of action in all competitions so far this season, so the question remains, will they let him go out on loan?”
Will Archie Gray return to Elland Road?
Currently, Daniel Farke is still looking for midfield reinforcements as the team gear up to compete for Premier League promotion. Leeds will have to rule out one target as a former Premier League player is set to stay at their club.
A player that knows the manager and the system would be a perfect fit. However, Palmer says the prospect of staying in the Premier League would be more exciting for Gray:
“If they do let him go, Leeds may have just missed out on his return with Premier League clubs interested. It would be a great bit of business if they could pull it off, but there will be lots of competition for the midfielder.
“I don’t think he’d want to go to the likes of Southampton, who are struggling, maybe Leicester City, who are just outside the drop.”
