Leeds United to fast-track January transfer plans following major development

Leeds United could be looking to make some transfers in January after what has happened this week. The club is in dire need of some positives following another loss in the Premier League.

The Whites have now lost their last four games in a row, and reports indicate that Daniel Farke’s job is on the line. This past weekend was yet another game which could have easily gone Leeds’ way, but eventually did not.

Manchester City found themselves 2-0 up at half time at the Etihad following goals from Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol. Daniel Farke made two big changes at the break, which turned the game on its head. On came Jaka Bijol and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, which changed the formation for Leeds. In just four minutes the former Everton striker had pulled a goal back.

Calvert-Lewin won a penalty late in the game, which Lukas Nmecha dispatched to level the scores. Unfortunately Leeds could not hold on and another Foden goal in added time sealed the win for the hosts.

Leeds United could look to January transfers after major injury

This Tuesday, Farke confirmed that Dan James had picked up a hamstring injury and could be out for the next few months. This leaves Leeds short on attackers, with the alternatives on the bench including Brenden Aaronson and Jack Harrison. When asked if the Whites could sign a replacement in January, this is what the Leeds boss had to say:

”Yes, it’s still a while until then. We’ll see a bit clearer how long it will last.

”We wanted to do more in the summer and then if a key player [James] is out for such a long time it influences your plan for January.

”Fully concentrated on the next games and don’t think too far ahead.”

What do Leeds need at right wing?

The club desperately need some firepower; a player that can score and create. Leeds have lacked that in their side this season, and this has affected how the team plays. Farke has been without a gamechanger in the side for long spells this season, and injuries to James and Gnonto have not helped.

If the Whites are able to get someone like Brandon Thomas-Asante, who they have been linked with, he could transform the attack. The forward has been lighting up the Championship for Coventry City this season.
