As seen with the reports last week, this summer is a crucial time for the club. They are planning to make some ruthless decisions, which could benefit them in the long term. News has hit the club in the past few hours of a potential shock departure. According to Diario De Sevilla, Real Betis are in talks with Leeds to do a deal for Mateo Joseph again. But now the terms are a £6.75million fee, including a 20% future clause. This is far from the initial £10-12million reported months ago.
This deal now guarantees a piece of every transfer Joseph makes in the future, instead of receiving a flat one time fee from the Spanish club.
Leeds should consider keeping Mateo Joseph
For all the talk about selling him this summer, there are solid claims to keep the youngster. He just has not had the chance to fully show his potential at Elland Road, and that is not totally his fault. If anything, the club needs to double down now and give him a new contract.
He should have a bigger role this season, Leeds need to do everything possible to get the best out of him. Joseph has immense quality and is already catching the eye of clubs around Europe. If they can see how good he is, why not Leeds United?
