Leeds United to pocket shock £37m from player sale – PSR nightmare over

Leeds United had to be extra careful to ensure that their spending last season didn’t breach the Premier League’s PSR rules. Although fans weren’t completely happy with the club’s transfer business, the Whites insisted they spent every penny possible without breaking financial rules.

The Whites forked out transfer fees worth more than £100m on 10 new players in the last transfer window. Leeds had to work under strict financial rules, and were careful that they didn’t breach PSR, which has attracted points deductions in recent seasons.

Leeds United want to sign a couple more players in the winter transfer window, but their pursuit of cheap options shows the club still worries about breaching the Premier League’s PSR regulations.

However, Leeds are set to receive a major cash windfall before the end of the season from a player sale, which could ease their PSR concerns and give them more headroom to spend, even in the winter window.

Leeds United are still owed £37m from the Raphinha sale to Barcelona

Raphina spent just two years at Leeds but won cult-hero status, and the Whites faithful have continued to admire him more than three years after he left the club.

Barcelona signed him from Leeds in 2022 for a deal worth up to £58m. They agreed to pay an initial fee of £50m plus another £8m in add-ons.

However, according to Cule Mania, Barcelona have paid only about £21m to Leeds for Raphinha and still owes £37m for the signing of the Brazilian.

Leeds will receive the rest of the fee by the end of the 2025/26 season, delivering a cash windfall ahead of the summer.

Barcelona have their own financial issues, but according to the agreement, they need to pay the full Raphinha fee before the end of the ongoing season.

Any failure to do so will incur a substantial fine, and Barcelona is unlikely to want to default on this payment in the 2025/26 season.

This could end Leeds’ PSR issues

PSR will heavily shape Leeds’ winter transfer activity, forcing the club to find ways to sign players without breaking regulations.

However, a £37m windfall at the end of the season could ease concerns and create more headroom to spend in the January transfer window.

Leeds want to sign a winger and an attacking midfielder, and are considering taking Chris Wood back to Elland Road from Nottingham Forest this winter.

Raphinha could end up helping Leeds bring in the players that will ensure they stay in the Premier League next season, close to four years after he left the club.

Can you name these 10 former Leeds United goalkeepers?

So much for the crap that we had been paid in full by a factoring company and that Barca then owed them. Why do we get all this BS? or is this report the BS?
