Leeds United have been linked with a flurry of midfielders since the loss of Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev to injury and although both Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have both stepped up, with the amount of games in the Championship, Leeds need reinforcements fast.
They have been linked with Liverpool ace Tyler Morton in January, but the bigger focus is on bringing in a free agent to address the immediacy of the situation.
This has seen them linked with a number of potential targets but one potential move collapsed due to the player’s financial demands.
Leeds United miss out on Premier League star
One of those players was former Nottingham Forest midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate. The former West Ham United star was a likely candidate to join the Whites for the rest of the season, but the move has collapsed.
According to James Marshment and GMS, this is due to the lofty “financial demands” of the player which meant he was ruled out as an option by the Elland Road club who have since elected to look for different options.
Kouyate would have brought plenty of experience to the side had a deal been struck by Leeds may have found an even more experienced alternative.

It has now been reported that Leeds United have agreed a deal with a former La Liga and Bundesliga star Joshua Guilavogui on a short term deal as per lorded journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Guilavogui is a seven time France international and was club captain of VfL Wolfsburg making 250 appearances for the club. He also had a spell with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid and has been available since the expiry of his deal at Mainz at the end of last season.
Now Leeds United are set to announce his arrival after agreeing a deal with the midfielder following his appearances at Elland Road on Friday and Tuesday nights.
The question is: Is he a superior signing to Kouyate? He certainly seems to be more value for money than the former Forest man given the financial demands he made.
