Leeds United transfer move set to collapse as new transfer target has been identified

Leeds United have made eight new signings this summer, the latest being Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer. The club spent the early part of the window focusing on the defence and midfield.

Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw were brought in to strengthen the backline, while Gabriel Gudmundsson was signed as a replacement for Junior Firpo. Leeds had a nice balance in both fullback positions last season – Firpo and Bogle starting, with Schmidt and Byram as the backups. The depth has now changed a bit with the departure of Firpo.

When Jayden Bogle picked up a knock in pre-season, Farke used Isaac Schmidt in an unfamiliar position at right back. The injury prompted discussions as to whether Leeds could bring in a right back later in the window.

Werder Bremen set to move on from Leeds United deal

Last month, it was reported that Werder Bremen had agreed a deal to sign Isaac Schmidt. But Daniel Farke wanted a replacement for the Swiss defender to green light the move. It has been weeks since an update was provided, with Leeds failing to bring in a replacement for Schmidt.

Sky Germany and Kicker are now reporting that Bremen are shifting their attention. The Bundesliga side are now eyeing a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Elias Baum. Werder Bremen were eliminated from the DFB Pokal, which could trigger a push for more signings. Head Coach Horst Steffen had already complained about the lack of movement, including the deal for Isaac Schmidt.

If Bremen do manage to complete a deal for Baum, it could well mean any move for the Leeds star will collapse as a result.

Leeds are still pushing to sign James Justin from Leicester. The Whites have been in touch with the player, but are yet to make an official bid. Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has said a deal could be sealed soon, with the fullback eyeing a starting role when he arrives:

“I’m told that Justin thinks he comes in and earns a starting spot — be it at left-back or right-back”,

“He isn’t coming in to sit on the bench, and Leeds love that attitude. If Justin gets back to his best, he’d be Leeds’ best full-back, without a doubt.”

No player deserves an instant place – he has to earn it. The move could be off anyway as the lad was deliberately played and risked with injury and that is what actually happened. Maybe a blessing in disguise as he is not so highly rated by many Leicester fans
The game against Everton on Monday is getting more desperate for a win after Sunderland winning today. However Sunderland do have a pattern of good starts and dropping back later – we shall see
