Leeds United are stumbling in their bid to earn automatic promotion, but that has not stopped the club from getting linked with several players ahead of the summer. The Whites are definitely working on several targets, but no move can be made until they know which division they will be playing in next season.
The recruitment team at Leeds United are identifying potential players who could come in and improve the squad, but they cannot move until promotion is secured.
Leeds are also believed to be considering players who could be signed if they are still in the Championship next season. However, any talk of a deal being in place for anyone seems premature.
It emerged this week that Leeds have offered a contract to Porto left-back Zaidu who has been a bit-part player this season and is believed to be keen on the move.
However, the defender has rubbished the claims.
Leeds United transfer rumours dismissed
It was claimed that Leeds had held some positive talks over doing a deal for the defender and had offered the player a four-year contract to move to Elland Road.
However, Zaidu insisted that there has been no contact with Leeds and no negotiations are ongoing between his representatives and the Yorkshire giants.
He also stressed that he has received no contract offer from the Whites while completely dismissing all talk of a transfer in the summer.
“I am not in contact with Leeds United or any team right now”, he told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“I am not negotiating with Leeds United, and I have not been offered a four-year contract. They lied about it.”
He is not a player anyone is clamouring for
Leeds supporters have their eyes peeled on the automatic promotion race, and have little time to think about players the club could sign in the summer.
However, the talk of the club wanting Zaidu would have worried the fans, as he is clearly not a player who is meant to play in the Premier League.
Can you name these 10 former Leeds United players?
Any interest in him would have told the Leeds faithful that the club could be preparing for one more season in the Championship.
It should be a huge sigh of relief that Leeds are not trying to sign the left-back, as the club will definitely have their sights on a better level of players in the summer.
Leeds will work towards ensuring promotion, and then bring in players who will take the squad to the next level.
