Over a month till January and potential Leeds United transfers are already dominating the headlines.
Daniel Farke and Leeds United are preparing for a huge game against Nottingham Forest this weekend. But the talk about the January transfer window has already began. Before the season began, fans expressed their frustration about lack of big signings in the summer. And this has showed early in the season with Leeds’ goalscoring struggles.
In the press conference ahead of the Forest game, Daniel Farke was asked about potential signings in January.
He responded: “It’s better to think than speak about it (the transfer window) because I had to speak about the last transfer window for four months.
“There will be that time after Christmas or so and then we are allowed to speak about it a bit more during January, but not right now.
“We are focused on our group – we have a good group together and I can’t waste even 1% of my energy right now to think about anything else.
“We have this group until January 1st and there are so many games coming, so we are fully focused.”
Farke then asked that if Leeds were to sign a player, would it be an attacker?
He answered bluntly: “My focus is Nottingham Forest. We worry about these topics a later.”
Daniel Farke’s words tell a story about Leeds United transfers
This topic about recruitment goes back as far as this summer. During pre season, Daniel Farke was adamant that the team needed quality in attack.
But Farke’s response on Friday tells a story. The Leeds United boss probably has no idea about what the club’s plans are for the upcoming window. And after what happened in the summer, he might be losing confidence in them.
Farke made it clear before the summer transfer deadline passed that he needed more bodies in attack. Leeds ended up signing no one at the end, failing in deals for Facundo Buonanotte and Harry Wilson.
Leeds United transfers totalled over £100 million this summer, and only £18 million was spent on a permanent signing in attack.
Leeds need a cutting edge up front
Summer signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin has just one goal in his nine games as a Leeds United player. The club’s top scorers this season are Noah Okafor and Joe Rodon, who is a center back.
| Dominic Calvert-Lewin for Leeds United 2025/26 | |
|---|---|
| Games Played | 8 |
| Goals | 1 |
| Assists | 2 |
| Big Chances Missed | 5 |
Leeds have also been guilty of missing a lot of chances this season – the Whites rank eighth in the Premier League for most big chances missed with 16. If the club had a player who could bury these chances, they would be much better off than 16th place in the table.
| Player | Big Chances Missed |
|---|---|
| Dominic Calvert-Lewin | 5 |
| Lukas Nmecha | 2 |
| Jayden Bogle | 2 |
| Noah Okafor and six other players | 1 |
The center forward position is a real worry; Daniel Farke does not seem to trust Joel Piroe anymore and Lukas Nmecha has not showed much. Calvert-Lewin, who is now the starter, also cannot find the back of the net with consistency.
Leeds need to back Daniel Farke with attackers when the January window comes around, but with the club’s approach in the summer, it does not seem likely.
Shocking ownership, rank amateur but then they are Yanks so you can expect it.
