Leeds United vs West Bromwich Albion: Squad woes and a lackluster draw

Players from Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion in action during a football match.

Leeds United went to The Hawthorns with only 18 senior players in the matchday squad. Although things turned out a bit better defensively, this still calls for emergency as the transfer window will close shut in under two weeks.

With Georginio Rutter leaving, this adds another player to the list to find replacements for. It has already been a pain to find replacements for Crysencio Summerville, Glen Kamara and Archie Gray.

Another player into the mix will only mean more work for The Whites. As The 49ers prepared for a game at The Hawthorns, the squad consisted of two youth players from the club’s academy.

Charlie Crew and James Boluwatife Debayo were odd additions to the matchday squad. Both the youngsters joined the first team as there were no more senior players left to rely on.

TalkSport presenter Faye Carruthers was shocked when she was told this live on air.

“How do Leeds United go into a new season with not enough players?”

It is indeed a big shocker as The Whites find themselves short on senior players with three matches already concluded. One of the oddest seasons for the promotion favourites as they look forward to setting it right by the end of the month.

Leeds United legend Stuart Dallas reacted to the draw in West Bromwich and regarded it as “poor” following the final whistle. The draw at The Hawthorns was a better defensive showcase following a week where The Whites conceded six goals.

However, attacking woes continued as The 49ers failed to find the back of the net second time in a row. Rutter’s departure has only added to Leeds United’s attacking problems.

“Great experience, poor game, good point.”

Dallas was in the Sky Sports studio during the 0-0 draw and was happy to see the team solve their defensive problems. Although, even the retired North Irishman would agree that the club needs reinforcements quickly.

With two matches remaining before the end of the month, Leeds United might finally settle in September when the club’s new signings will have had enough time to be acquainted with Elland Road by then.

Till then, fans can only hope that the transfer team is doing their job. As The 49ers inch closer to August 30th, new faces might finally arrive in West Yorkshire.
