Leeds United will now be forced to make £13M signing after latest development

Leeds United have moved smartly in this summer transfer window. So far, they have made decent signings in some areas of the team.

The club have welcomed three new faces over the past few weeks. And all these deals went smoothly because there was a plan and process in place. Lukas Nmecha mentioned that Daniel Farke played a key role in convincing him, while Sebastiaan Bornauw admitted that there was interest in a move as far back as January.

Despite doing good business so far, the club were recently dealt a huge blow. Leeds had serious interest in signing Habib Diarra from Strasbourg, and had been monitoring the situation for weeks. However, Sunderland swooped in and made the midfielder their record signing this week.

Graeme Bailey gave the inside scoop on how the Senegalese international ended up at Sunderland. The main point being that Leeds had a valuation they did not want to exceed:

“Diarra was and is well-liked by Leeds, but they never came close to matching their demands of £30million,” Bailey said.

The Whites held talks with the French club, but the asking price was too steep.

Now, the Black Cats have also snapped up another Leeds target in Noah Sadiki. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move on Wednesday. With both of the club’s key midfield targets lost, the Whites will now have to increase efforts to complete the deal for Anton Stach. Reports suggest that the details of the move could be finalized soon.

Losing targets raises question

Missing out on Diarra and Sadiki have raised eyebrows from the fanbase. There are now questions of Leeds ambition after the club refused to match the valuation for the Strasbourg midfielder. Hopefully, the club sticks to their plan and signs the players needed this summer. Jumping into bidding wars is not a great strategy in this transfer window.
