Leeds United would have been flying – Pundit identifies big issue with the Whites

Tony Dorigo has insisted that Leeds United would have been flying in the Championship this season even if they were taking advantage of the average number of chances they have been creating.

Leeds’ 2-0 win away from home at Cardiff City on Saturday pushed them back up to the top six of the Championship after six league games this season.

The Whites are being tipped to be promotion contenders but Daniel Farke’s side have shown some inconsistencies and did lose 1-0 at home to Burnley earlier this month despite dominating the game.

Leeds have been criticised for not making the most of the chances they have been creating, which has led to some inconsistent results at the start of the season.

Leeds United would have been flying even if they were converting some of their chances

Dorigo insisted that the biggest issue with Leeds at the moment is their inability to convert the chances they have been creating into goals.

Leeds have scored the least number of goals in the current top six but have looked dangerous and created some very good chances, which they have squandered.

He conceded that the lack of potency in front of goal has become a theme this season and feels Leed would have been flying in the league this season if they converted just some of the opportunities they created in the first six league games.

“For me, the biggest issue is not taking our chances”, Dorgio said on the Square Ball Podcast.

“That’s becoming a theme, which I don’t want to keep going on about but I am having to.

“Look back at the Burnley game and the chances we had there – Joseph in the first minute and Gnonto – you can’t keep missing those chances.

“The higher level of football that you watch, those chances end up at the back of the net and the lower down, they don’t.

“We at the moment, are playing some very good stuff but that last bit is not good enough given where we are.

“Even if we start taking the average number of chances, we would be absolutely flying but we are not and that’s what we need to improve.”

Leeds United’s issues from dead-ball situations have also been well-documented and they have not scored a goal from a corner-kick since February.
