Leeds United would have done the same – Pundit feels Leicester City should not be blamed for finding a loophole

TalkSPORT pundit Andy Goldstein has insisted that Leeds United would have done the same thing as Leicester City if they had found a loophole in the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Leicester escaped punishment for breaching PSR after they appealed the decision that went in favour of the Premier League following arguments in front of an Independent Commission.

However, an independent appeals commission bought Leicester’s argument that the Premier League had no jurisdiction over the club once they got relegated from the top flight at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Leicester got a reprieve on a legal technicality and Leeds are said to be surprised at the way the Foxes managed to escape any sanctions for breaching PSR.

Leeds United would have done the same, claims Andy Goldstein

Leeds were one of the clubs who were under PSR pressure in the summer and sold several key players to fill in their coffers.

The sale of Archie Gray to Tottenham finally helped Leeds to remain within PSR and not worry about any sanctions in the near future.

A section of the Leeds fans, along with Nottingham Forest and Everton supporters are miffed at the way Leicester escaped any sanctions but Goldstein insisted that the Whites would have done the same if they found a loophole in the rules.

He believes Leicester should not be vilified for finding a technicality in the law and escape a points deduction from the Premier League.

“They are not to blame Leicester”, Goldstein said on talkSPORT.

“I know what the football fans, especially Everton, Forest and Leeds fans would be thinking but they are not to be blamed.

“They found a loophole or their lawyers have found a loophole and they have exploited that.

“If Everton, Leeds and Forest would have found a loophole, believe me [they would have exploited it].”

Leeds will hope that their accounts are in order if and when they get promoted back to the Premier League.

Don’t talk rubbish. Leeds sold one of their biggest assets in Archie Gray in order to comply with the rules

Absolute rubbish… we & other clubs have weakened ourselves to make sure we were not in that position to begin with. Leicester absolutely clearly & deceitfully cheated multiple times, including filing accounts late therefore using something not in the spirit of the game & used a morally poor technicality to swerve 2 years punishments of over spending / cheating.
