Leeds United’s interest in Tyler Goodrham is bad news for Wilfried Gnonto

Wilfried Gnonto’s career at Leeds United has reached the crossroads. He lost his place in the starting eleven last month and Manor Solomon’s performances mean the Italian is unlikely to get a chance to start games any time soon. There are question marks over Gnonto’s future at the club, especially if they get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season. Leeds are looking at other attackers as potential targets and their interest in Oxford United’s Tyler Goodrham must worry Gnonto. The Irishman is a talented young winger and could be seen as a potential replacement for the Italy international in the Leeds squad.

The loan departures of Joe Gelardt and Charlie Crew are the only significant piece of transfer business Leeds have conducted so far in the January transfer window.

For now, it seems Leeds are keeping their powder dry but the club are getting linked with several players for different positions who could be brought in to improve their squad.

Leeds are expected to sign a centre-back depending on the final assessment of Pascal Struijk’s injury but the club are considering options to improve their attack.

They have already been linked with an interest in Emiliano Buendia who Aston Villa are prepared to loan out before the window closes on 3rd February.

Leeds also hold an interest in versatile attackers. According to Football Insider, they are among the clubs considering signing Oxfor United’s Tyler Goodrham, attracting interest from several other teams.

Sunderland, Coventry City and Swansea are also believed to be considering getting their hands on the 21-year-old winger in the ongoing transfer window.

Leeds’ interest in Goodrham is a sign the club are considering bringing in players who could end up replacing Gnonto.

Tyler Goodrham is a much-wanted young player

The Irish winger was pivotal in Oxford getting promoted from League One last season and has continued to impress in the Championship this term.

Oxford are sitting 15th in the Championship standings and surviving relegation this season would be seen as success if they manage to do it.

Goodrham has been one of the standout players for them this season and his performances have played a role in ensuring that they have some distance between them and the relegation scrap.

He has three goals and three assists in the league but it is important to mention that despite being a right winger, he has played in several roles for the team this season.

He has also played on the left flank, as a right and left midfielder, and as a defensive midfielder, which was his role in the 4-0 defeat to Leeds.

The Irishman’s versatility attracts all of his suitors, including Leeds United. He is considered one of the most talented young players in the Championship.

Oxford would be reluctant to sell him in the winter window but it is believed that a potential move to a promotion-chasing side would be too good to turn down for Goodrham.

Wilfried Gnonto must be looking over his shoulders

Gnonto was a certainty in the starting eleven until last month when his drop eventually saw him dropped to the bench. Manor Solomon has grabbed the opportunity with both hands and the Italian winger is now struggling to get into the team again.

The Italian’s lack of output has been a cause for worry in a season when he was expected to step up following the departures of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter.

He is even struggling to make an impact from the bench, something which Largie Ramazani did in the 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

There are long-term worries over his future at Leeds and their interest in Goodrham is an indicator that the club could be looking beyond Gnonto.

The Irishman can play on both flanks and down the middle and his arrival could really threaten his place in the squad going forward.

Gnonto still has time to rekindle his career at Leeds but the club looking at players who could replace him is a sign that he could be running out of time at Elland Road.
