Leeds United forward Rodrigo has reclaimed his place amongst his country’s international ranks as they prepare for a round of matches in the Nations League later this month.
Spain boss Luis de la Fuente confirmed his selection today [2 June] ahead of the beginning of their campaign on Thursday 15th June – which kicks off with a tough semi-final contest against Italy.
Should Spain manage to beat Italy, they will face either Croatia or the Netherlands in the Nations League final on Sunday 18th June.
Rodrigo’s last appearance for his country came in 2021 as he was absent from Luis Enrique’s squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
In what was a disappointing season for the now-relegated Leeds, Rodrigo was one of the West Yorkshire side’s standout players, scoring 15 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions.
The Spaniard’s industriousness coupled with a clinical edge in front of goal provided moments of quality in what was a dismal season for the Elland Road faithful – earning him the accolade of being voted Leeds’ fans player of the season with a landslide 53% of the vote (via BBC Sport).
The 32-year-old will be keen to add to his current tally of 8 goals for Spain which he has managed in 27 caps.
Rodrigo’s future at Leeds is uncertain as the summer transfer window looms, with this call-up doing nothing to put off any speculation concerning where he may end up when this all-important trading period closes.
