Leeds United’s pursuit of Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer might be over. The prospect of the Blades’ midfielder arriving at Elland Road is very slim.
The Whites had a £13million bid rejected for Hamer, with Sheffield United looking for around £18million. The two clubs have been miles apart in their valuation of the midfielder, and it does not look like the Blades will change their stance so close to the end of the transfer window.
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder said the offer from Leeds United was “ridiculous”:
“With Gus, we talked about it from a Leeds point of view and what they did,”
“I will always be honest with you and you know what I thought about it. They sold two players for £40m each [Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter] and ridiculously low-balled us for our best player. I’m not here to appease anyone up the road, I’m here for Sheffield United Football Club and its best interests. The number was ridiculously low.”
Blades boss hints at Gustavo Hamer stay
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder was adamant that he was pleased that the club would be keeping their star players this transfer window.
When asked about keeping Gustavo Hamer and other key players, Wilder was optimistic:
“Yeah, I am,” he said in Sheffield United’s pre match press conference (via the Yorkshire Post).
“You never know but I’m under the impression that that’s it, and basically no-one will be going out and no one coming in. So we’ll work with the group we’ve got.”
“There’s always a price with players and if the other clubs had hit those prices – and they were realistic prices [they would have gone]. From my point of view Gus staying, Anel [Ahmedhodžić] staying, Vini [Vinícius Souza] staying – who I’ve got to give a special mention to because he has been incredible from my point of view as a manager – to keep those most talked-about players is really good.”
State of Leeds United’s transfer business
After losing a whole host of key players during the summer, Daniel Farke called for additions before the end of the transfer window. Crysencio Summerville joined West Ham, Archie Gray also moved to Spurs, Georginio Rutter moved to Brighton and Glenn Kamara also left the club this summer.
There have been a few arrivals including Largie Ramazani, Ao Tanaka and Manor Solomon this past week. The plan was reportedly to add two more players after the arrival of Tanaka, but as it stands, Gustavo Hamer will not be one of the signings.
