Leeds United are currently fourth in the Championship, and while they are one of the favorites this 2024-25 season to earn promotion to the Premier League, The Whites have one flaw in their squad that concerns one football media member.

Last season, Leeds leaned heavily on Crysencio Summerville (21), Joël Piroe (14), and Daniel James (13) as they were the only players to score 10 or more goals. Summerville is now gone, and Georginio Rutter, who scored eight goals during the 2023-24 season, left as well.

Moreover, last season, Daniel Farke and his team relied most on the forwards to produce goals for the team. Ethan Ampadu and Sam Byram were the non-forwards to have more than one goal as they each had two.

Sky Sports presenter expresses goal-scoring concerns for Leeds

With 29 goals gone after the departure of two players and the lack of goals from the non-forwards, it opens the door for other attacking players and others on the squad to step up and fill the void left behind.

As a result, Sky Sports’ David Prutton has predicted that Leeds United forward Mateo Joseph is set for a standout season at Elland Road.

There’s potential there,Prutton told the Yorkshire Evening Post. But the potential obviously has got to turn into something pretty concrete. For him and the club and team, you’d like to think that this would be his breakout season, where he announces himself as the man that leads a line with the requisite goals to boot.”

However, he’s also expressed concern about where Leeds’s goals will come from. Prutton notes that The Whites need to look at different methods to score goals rather than solely relying on the forward group as they did last season.

It’s been said for some time that a potential pitfall for Leeds is not spreading the goals around them,Prutton added.I still believe that. Are they getting enough from set pieces? No. Do they get enough from players that are not out-and-out strikers or forwards? Possibly not. So it’s a collective.

“I understand your eyes are drawn to the centre-forward and the ten possibly playing off him but again, I do stress that it is a collective.”
