When the transfer window opened, reports from Elland Road suggested that some of the club’s young players would be available this summer. The main names were Darko Gyabi, Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt. This week, Gelhardt has received some serious interest from Wrexham.
Now, multiple reports are indicating that Greenwood is attracting serious interest. The Daily Mail is reporting that the 23-year old is drawing the attention of Leicester City and Sunderland. Both sides are said to be keen on the versatile attacker this summer. The Black Cats could hold an edge in a possible deal, as Greenwood was born there, and spent time at the academy.
The forward has been open to leaving Elland Road, making his future clear towards the end of his Preston loan last season:
“Obviously, I always focus on the present and focus on each game as it comes. It’s a big decision. I’m in the present at the minute and I’ll come to that at the end of the season.”
Loan spell working in Greenwood’s favour
It looks like the Preston loan spell has paid off. The forward managed seven goals and three assists in all competitions. He was one of the best performers for the team during the campaign.
Leeds could now benefit from a sale, with Greenwood said to be available for just £3-4million.
