Leicester City finances show true value of Leeds United transfer

Leeds United spent close to £100million this summer, but fans were still not happy with the result of the transfer window. Many felt that the club could have invested more in the attack.

Leeds only spent £18million on an attacker, signing Noah Okafor from AC Milan. They also added Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin who joined on free transfers. That meant a huge chunk of the money was spent on the defence and the midfield.

The Whites added significant improvements and depth to the team with some solid signings. And the results on the pitch have proven why spending on the defence and midfield was a good thing. Leeds’ standout performers so far this season have been Gabriel Gudmundsson, Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach.

Leicester City gain cash boost after Leeds United transfer

James Justin Credit: Imago

One of the transfers Leeds made this summer was signing James Justin from Leicester City. Daniel Farke needed cover for Jayden Bogle, and decided to bring the English fullback on board.

Jordan Blackwell of Leicestershire Live is reporting that the Foxes have taken loans to bring forward the transfer fees from some summer sales. The report reveals that Leicester have engaged with Australian bank Macquarie to get some funds. This is so that they can realize cash from the sales of Tom Cannon, James Justin and Kasey McAteer up front.

The Foxes negotiated split payments for some of these deals, spreading them across multiple years. In order not to wait too long for these instalments, Leicester have brought in £18.7m in bank loans.

With regards to James Justin’s transfer, the foxes loaned £5million from Macquarie to bring in the two £2.5million payments due from Leeds over the next two years. This means that the base fee for the defender’s was around £7.5million, but there are add-ons that could see the fee reach close to £10million.

How has James Justin been this season?

Since arriving, Justin has not gotten the chance to play much this season. Jayden Bogle continues to be the main starter for the team, and is guaranteed to play anytime he is fully fit. The defender has played just 22 minutes of football this season. Hopefully he can get a run of games when the fixture schedule becomes congested near the end of the year.
