Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Dan Bardell has insisted that he doesn’t feel Leeds United will try to seek any legal action against Leicester City for escaping the Premier League’s PSR sanctions.
Leicester managed to escape any docking of points by the Premier League for breaking PSR after they found a loophole in the rules.
The Foxes successfully argued in front of an appeals board that they were not a Premier League club during the relevant accounting period and the top flight’s governing body had no jurisdiction to punish them.
The ruling has been widely criticised and Leeds are reportedly surprised by the way Leicester managed to escape any PSR sanctions while the Whites have been forced to make sure that their accounts remain in order following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
Leeds fans have been left frustrated as the Whites were forced to sell key players, including Archie Gray, to make sure that they remain within the PSR red line.
Dan Bardell is not sure Leeds United will go after any legal action against Leicester City
There are suggestions that Leeds and a few other clubs could now seek a legal opinion on how Leicester escaped punishment and maybe take action against them.
However, Bardell stressed that there is no point as Leicester won promotion from the Championship last season fair and square and Leeds had their opportunities as well.
He understands the frustration within Leeds but he is not sure the club’s board will now try to chase Leicester with some legal action in the future.
“It’s a difficult one. There will be frustration but at some point, you have to let that go”, Bardell told MOT Leeds News.
“Across a 46-game season, Leeds didn’t do enough to get promoted automatically despite a really good points haul. They then had the chance in the playoffs but they didn’t take it.
“I can get the frustration but at some point, you’ve got to look at yourselves rather than what is around you.
“I wouldn’t think it will be something that fans or the Leeds board will go after too much.”
There are claims that Leeds would have followed Leicester’s example if they had found a loophole in the PSR guidelines.
